THE ESTATE
40 hectares of vineyards lying between Siena and Chianti Classico
A Medieval castle surrounded by 30 hectares of vineyards, 7 of these in the Chianti Classico area, to which are added 10 hectares in the hills of San Donato, in the Siena area. The vineyards are protected by a thick Holm live oak forest and the altitude offers a well-ventilated exposure.
Grapes have always been grown on the castle grounds, but it was only recently that Alberto Arcangeli, the owner of the estate, due to his passion for these vineyards decided to bottle his own wine after researching and reproducing the original clones typical of this area.
The total vineyard area is 40 hectares, divided into 30 hectares of Sienese Chianti from the Poggibonsi area and 10 hectares of Chianti Classico from the Florentine hills of San Donato. The average age of the vines is 20 years old.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Under the careful guidance of the owners, the few remaining vineyards are returning to their past glory, producing a excellent grapes with an average annual production of around 1,400 quintals.
The calcareous-stony soil of the area is rich in fossils and minerals which give our wines an admirable structure, while the hot days and cool nights enhance their seductive bouquet.
Our multi-varietal DOP Extra Virgin Olive Oil is produced from our olive groves on the Sienese hills of Poggibonsi and on the Florentine hills of San Donato.
Grape varietals: Sangiovese, Pugnitello, Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Merlot, Syrah, Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante (Grenache)
Olive varietals: Frantoiani, Leccino, Moraiola

The legend of the fox
The name “Strozzavolpe” derives from the ancient legend which tells of a very ferocious, somewhat diabolical fox, which hindered the construction of the castle until, captured after a long hunt full of traps and plot twists, it was hanged. A wizard prophesied that the castle would only last “as long as the body of the fox”, so the very clever lord of the castle had it embalmed and then filled the body with liquid gold, thereby guaranteeing the fox and the castle a very long existence…
